The game of cricket had been played in Seaford during the late 1700’s, but it wasn’t until 1859 that several Seaford residents decided to introduce a cricket club for the town. The club was officially formed the following year, in May 1860.
Captain Lewis Crook was involved in the formation, and he became the President of the club.
The club played their cricket matches on the ‘common’ which became known as the ‘Cricketfield’.
During in the early 1900’s the cricket club played their games at East Blatchington until the field was sold for development.
When the Salts recreation ground was developed in 1923, a quality cricket pitch was laid, and the Seaford Cricket Club have used the Salts ever since.
